I have a full transcription of the 1891 and the 1901 census for Blackwall Buildings. It is interesting to note that the census only lists from flat 1 to 37. It is noted that several of these are unoccupied. From flat 37 onwards they are all marked unoccupied. So we can realistically establish the building date as 1891. This census has a total of 128 apartments numbered. The 1901 census lists flats 1 to 156. Most are 2 room flats. A few have 3 rooms. With up to a dozen people living in a single dwelling, it was obviously cramped.
